The Nature and Conservation Tourism Services Promotion and Certification Programme aims to position São Tomé and Príncipe as one of the most authentic, preserved and competitive ecotourism destinations in the Gulf of Guinea, capitalising on the country's designation as a World Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO, 2025). The programme structures a national sustainable tourism market, creating quality standards, environmental certification and professional training that enable biodiversity, culture and hospitality to be transformed into real economic value. The initiative combines three pillars of investment: (i) certification of services and qualification of tour operators, accommodation, guides and community initiatives; (ii) development of premium nature products and experiences - wildlife observation, interpretive trails, marine tourism, rural culture and routes in protected areas; iii) promotion and marketing of the destination with a National Sustainable Nature Tourism Seal, capable of differentiating STP in the international market. Focusing on protected areas, coastal zones, historic plantations and rural communities, the programme encourages small and medium-sized enterprises to invest, creates green jobs and generates new local revenue, while reducing pressure on fragile ecosystems and strengthening sustainable land management. This is a clear investment opportunity for public and private partners in a growing sector, aligned with the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Tourism, ENDS 2026–2040 and global trends in responsible tourism. The programme aims to provide a safe and attractive environment for investment, with strong community involvement, public-private partnership models and synergies with existing initiatives.
