Construction of Fishing and Logistics Terminal

Modernisation of the artisanal fish value chain in São Tomé and Príncipe

The Fernão Dias Fishing and Logistics Terminal – Phase I marks the beginning of a profound transformation in the artisanal fish value chain in São Tomé and Príncipe. The first phase, with an initial investment of USD 450,000, establishes a Reception Station and a modern Cold Chain designed to reduce post-harvest losses, improve quality and hygiene in fish handling, and ensure its preservation until transport and marketing. This infrastructure directly responds to the needs of the artisanal sector, offering conditions compatible with international standards and contributing to strengthening national food security. This is a project to modernise the artisanal fish value chain, fully aligned with the Blue Economy vision and the inclusive economic development of coastal communities. The initiative generates skilled local employment, improves logistical efficiency and creates a solid foundation for future expansion in mariculture, processing and shipyards. As an initial investment with high multiplier potential, Phase I in Fernão Dias is positioned as a strategic opportunity to boost the fishing sector, increase incomes and promote sustainable and resilient growth in the country.
